Pushing Through the Waters

The second quarter of 2025 has started off rough for our Iquitos pastors and their church members. Rising river levels have forced children and youth to walk through several feet of water or travel by small boats to get around. Due to intense rain and flooding, there has also been an increase in mosquitoes, raising the risk of dengue, colds, and fevers.

Many Iquitos pastors and their families had to evacuate their homes, and even the churches had to be cleared out. One pastor feared they would need to cancel Sunday school, but through God’s conviction and protection, classes were still held—this time in a small area outside the church. Despite the difficult conditions, the children remained joyful as they gathered to worship our God.

Though circumstances are extreme—homes abandoned and churches emptied—the church remained. 1 Corinthians 12:27 says, “You are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of it.” Even though physical buildings were flooded or deserted, the body of Christ stood firm. The children, teachers, and pastors continued to gather, worship, and seek the Lord with all their hearts. They receive little to no government support, and they lack supplies and medicine—but their protection comes from the Lord.

Psalm 46:2-3 says, “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Please pray for the Lord to place His divine protection over these resilient pastors, leaders, children, and their families. May they be strengthened and encouraged by the Holy Spirit. Pray also for the provision of medicine and supplies to guard against dengue, mosquitoes, colds, and fever.
